The many peaks of Playa Grande makes it possible to score one of the best waves in the world to your self. The flat beach allows for all skill levels of surfing, and surf lessons can be held right out in front of the house!
Kayaking Playa Grande, Costa Rica
Explore the ocean above water or below the surface with kayaking. The fresh water water rivers and amazing ocean reefs along the Guanacaste are breath taking. The southern Nicoya Peninsula is known to be one of the better kayaking destinations in all of Central America.

Depending on the season, the offshore winds allow for great kite surfing. The most popular place to kite surf in the area is out in front of the Metapalo rivermouth that separates Playa Grande and Tamarindo. The beaches are very large here so there’s plenty of room to roam; however there are no longer any shops or outfitters in town for purchasing or renting kitesurfing equipment, so be sure that you bring all of your gear.
Fishing Playa Grande, Costa Rica
Grab a fishing pole and throw your lures into the water as you bask in the sun. The Guanacaste region is notorious for great fishing of all types as many species are readily caught including: rooster fish, dorado, red snapper and more.
